PORTLAND, OREGON
At the time of its completion, the Williams & Fremont tower, also known as “Carbon 12” was the tallest mass-timber building in the United States. A hybrid structure, the building is constructed with an all-steel braced-frame central core with heavy timber columns, beams, and CLT floor panels. The building is also fully sprinklered and has been designed to meet the standards of fire safety equal to a 1 hour fire resistive rating.
John’s primary responsibility for the building project was to conceptualize and execute the complete design of the exterior facade. This entailed arranging the facade’s composition with regard to material selection, window types, dimensions, and proportions, in addition to the technical development of all exterior details. Furthermore, John took the leading role in designing the interior spaces, including kitchens and bathrooms, as well as the commercial spaces on the ground floor. He also oversaw the collaboration with consultants, including those specializing in structural and building enclosure aspects.
