The Western Lane Fire & EMS Department in Florence Oregon requested a design for their administrative facilities adjacent to the existing fire station to the North which was constructed in the mid-nineties. Their program required a large community conference room, ten administrative offices, two conference rooms, and a staff break room. They also requested that the new building relate to the existing fire station in terms of scale, style, materials and color. The building’s form is a simple composition of two large roof planes with exposed purlins supported by a repeating pattern of vertical wall planes clad in stained cedar. The interior space is a direct result of the exterior massing, with generous ceiling heights that create an open, expansive and light-filled environment.
The public entrance is oriented directly to highway 101, giving the building a strong civic presence, while the staff entry is positioned conveniently at the back side for access to and from the existing fire station.
