Pencil Factory Condominium
122 West Street, Greenpoint, Brooklyn

122 West Street, also known as the Pencil Factory, is a distinctive condominium located in the heart of Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Originally built in 1872 for the Eberhard Faber pencil company, this historic building was seamlessly converted into 93 modern residential units while preserving its industrial charm.  It stands today as a testament to the neighborhood's blend of historical preservation and contemporary living.

John Lockwood Carhart was the lead project designer while employed with Goldner Architects in Manhattan.  John initiated and developed all the exterior design features with the idea to create a contemporary expression for the facade while maintaining a strong relationship the the original building's materials and character.   The penthouse units with their minimalist cubic aesthetic were inspired by the artwork of Donald Judd.
