19th & Overton, Portland, Oregon

Project Architect:  Will Ullman
Architect of Record:  Works Architecture

Overton 19 is a group of eight commercial rental units designed to be flexible and practical. Built on the edge of an old industrial site, the project was shaped with one big idea: raising the two corner units to better fit the busy street corner and to make room for different types of spaces.  The exterior facade of the building is designed to feel like a layer of trees, offering both openness and privacy. It’s built with basic materials, including a cost-effective glass screen wall. This screen starts right at the sidewalk, where extra trees and a front planter help block views in while still letting in natural light.  At the heart of Overton 19 is the belief that simple design can still allow for interesting and flexible spaces. By using basic shapes and smart planning, the building can support many different uses and adapt over time.

Will Ullman served as the project architect on this building while employed with Works Architecture in Portland.  As the project architect, Will coordinated the work of all consultants and produced much of the architectural drawings which included exterior detailing for both performance and aesthetics.
